Christina and Mike began to seriously pursue letterpress while planning their wedding. Frustrated with the cost and lack of options in commercially-produced letterpress, they decided to learn the craft and print their own. They studied typography and printing at the San Francisco Center for the Book. Soon after they purchased their press and their first fonts of type. After completing their wedding invitations and programs, they progressed to other projects such as thank you cards, business cards, calendars, and stationery. Their designs are clean and whimsical. They strive to bridge the gap between this almost-obsolete technology and a modern sensibility.

Mike also pursue interests in building tube amps and pedals, music, metalworking, and home improvement.

Christina also pursues interests in music, dance, gardening with native plants, and knitting.

printer's devil

Our Printer's Devil, Daytime Kitty, passed away on Feb 9/08. He may have never filed type or made tea, but he will be missed. We look forward to meeting up with him again in the big press room in the sky.

His claim to fame was his Google-ability. His blog still resides on Catster.

process

Designs are done pen on paper, with some color senarios worked out on computer. Work is handset and printed either on C&P platen press or on a Vandercook SP-4 press. Rubber inks are mixed by hand, so each print run is unique. Paper is cut on an antique cutter and deckled edges, while not sought out, are kept as is.
